Dental Insurance
It is important for you to be informed that professional services are rendered and charged to you, not to an insurance company. We will do everything to help you maximize your benefits on a yearly basis. Dental insurance pays only a portion of your investment, and we urge you to be fully aware of the provisions of your dental co-payment policy. All dental services and financial arrangements are provided directly to you, not your insurance carrier. All payments remain the responsibility of the patient and are to be paid directly to the office.
We strongly feel that our patients deserve the best possible dental care we can provide. In an effort to maintain this high quality of care, we would like to share some information about Dental Insurance.
There are literally hundreds of plans, each one different, depending on the amount you and/or your employer are contributing to the plan. All dental insurance plans, at this time, are group plans and most cover between 30 and 80 percent of costs up to a yearly maximum of between $500 and $1,500.
It has been the experience of many dentists, that sometimes insurance companies tell their clients that certain dental fees are “above the usual and customary” rather than tell them that the insurance benefits are too low. When dental co-payment plans started in 1970, they allowed about the same maximum payment per year as they allow today. In other words, reflecting for a 6% per year inflation, your $1,000 benefit per year is equal to $290.00 in today’s dollar. Had the various dental insurance companies increased their benefit on a year by year basis reflecting increases for inflation, this year your benefit would be over $3,200! We ask you to understand that we do not work for the insurance companies. We work for you. We want to help you maximize your benefits while not being controlled by insurance companies and the benefit packages they offer. If you would like to know what your insurance benefits will be before you begin treatment, we will request a predetermination of benefits for you. This generally takes about 4-6 weeks.
We would like you to call or come in and talk with us if you have any questions relating to your insurance or proposed treatment.
