What Is Emergency Dentistry?
Many dental issues can wait until a regularly scheduled appointment, but if you are in severe pain or have experienced dental trauma, you may need emergency services.
As always, if you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency such as severe bleeding, please call 911 or visit the emergency room for treatment before calling the dentist.
Procedures offered
Root Canals
If you suffer from dental trauma or a severe toothache, you may need a root canal. Root canals remove infected pulp inside a tooth and shape and clean the interior surfaces to prevent future problems.
Tooth Extraction
If your tooth is too far gone for a root canal or repair, you may need to have it extracted on an emergency basis. We perform extractions regularly, making you as comfortable as possible during the procedure.
Broken Teeth
If you have chipped or broken a tooth, it may not seem like a dental emergency, but you should contact us immediately. Broken teeth can lead to painful infections, and even a chipped tooth can become a more severe break.
Knocked-Out Teeth
One of the most common reasons that patients seek emergency dental care is when they have a knocked-out tooth. We can often reseat knocked-out teeth and encourage them to bond with the jaw again. Time is of the essence, and if you can see us within a half-hour to an hour, you have the best chance of saving your tooth. If it has been longer than an hour, don't give up hope.

Below are instructions for handling minor dental emergencies.
Gently clean the area around the tooth by rinsing the mouth with warm water and gently flossing to remove any particles that may be lodged in the tissue around the tooth. If the pain continues, or if the area around the affected tooth is warm, please call our office to schedule an appointment.
Apply ice to help reduce swelling and apply pressure with a clean cloth or sterile gauze to stop any bleeding. If the bleeding continues, call your physician or visit your local emergency room.

- Do not touch the tooth root, but hold the tooth by the crown and gently rinse the tooth with water.
- Place the tooth back into the socket as quickly as possible and bite down on clean gauze to hold it in place.
- If the tooth cannot be placed in the socket, put the tooth in a small container of milk or saliva and bring it with you to your appointment.
Gently rinse the area with lukewarm water and place a cold compress on the face to reduce swelling. If you can locate the piece of the broken tooth, place the piece in milk, and bring it with you to the office. If more than half of the tooth is broken off, please call us immediately.
